V-Badged Audi Seven-Seat MPV Arriving in 2016

As the world’s population keeps growing, MPV sales everywhere are going very well, with western Europe being particularly MPV-friendly. Also, aside from families, there are those who need a luxurious vehicle with a premium badge, which can also seat seven, for business purposes.
Currently, aside from the Chrysler Grand Voyager, we can’t think of any other MPV to fit that description. This is where Audi’s MPV will come in. It will be underpinned by the VW Group’s ultra-modular MQB platform, which will be lengthened to accommodate seven people and their bags (or dog).

Also, with Audi being Audi, we already know what it will look like, what it will drive like and what sort of engines will be available under its bonnet. The very familiar 1.4, 1.8 and 2.0-liter petrol engines will definitely make an appearance, but most buyers will opt for the group’s excellent diesel engines - probably only the 2.0-liter will be offered, with either 140 or 175 hp.

It will also bring in a new naming strategy for Audi - the ‘V’. We expect this first offering to be the V4 (as it will be about the size of an A4). However, if it is successful (and it probably will be), then Audi will undoubtedly launch an entire V range, with practical yet luxurious MPVs to suit all needs and budgets (well, not all budgets, as they still need to leave room for the Seat Alhambra and VW Sharan).

A hybrid version is also rumored, being powered by a 1.4-liter TFSI engine which will be aided by an electric motor. It should give the Toyota Prius V a run for its money, if it does get built, it should arrive in Audi showrooms by 2016.
