Users Want Google to Remove This Pointless Waze “Feature” on Android Auto

Despite Waze being one of the most popular navigation apps out there, not just on mobile devices but also on Android Auto and CarPlay, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it works flawlessly and everything about it is just the best thing ever.

And living proof in this regard is a small detail that Waze offers as a feature but which many people think it shouldn’t actually be there at all.

It’s the fog that shows up at the top of the screen when running Waze in Android Auto, which has absolutely no role other than trying to give a more modern feeling to the navigation app that so many people use.

But on the other hand, this fog/shadow effect that Waze enables in the app actually eats up valuable screen estate, so users now want the Google-owned company to get rid of it. Instead, it would make much more sense for Waze to actually display navigation information in this place, rather than use it for something totally pointless, like a fog effect.

Complaints about this feature were posted many months ago, but just as expected, the fog effect is still around these days.

Seriously, using Waze in Android Auto already makes the interface so big that the gradient fog at the top of the screen covers half of the upcoming map. I don't think I've ever seen another GPS program use something similar, so its usage in Waze is dumbfounding to me,” someone says on reddit in another public request for Google to remove this feature.

Oddly enough, this visual effect doesn’t seem to be enabled for everyone, and some say that since the major Android Auto overhaul last year, it’s no longer there. On the other hand, others claim it still shows up nowadays every time they launch Waze on Android Auto.

Of course, this shadow effect does not exist on CarPlay – this is something that’s not such a big surprise as everything seems to be running much smoother on Apple’s system anyway.
