Used Cars Get Fuel Economy Stickers

As it seems there is no stopping fuel prices from rising to new heights, people in the market for a car these days are looking, perhaps more than ever, to buy fuel efficient cars. And since not all can afford hybrids or electric vehicles, regardless of the reason, the market for used cars is as alive as ever.

Yet, compared to those who buy a new car, consumers in the US going for a used one were until now at a disadvantage when it came to making an informed decision. Whereas new cars always come with a window sticker that informs the buyer about the mileage he or she can achieve in the car, used vehicles and their fuel consumption levels remained a dilemma until the new owner actually got to drive it.

That is about to change, as the Environmental Protection Agency decided to stick the information on the windows of the used cars as well, this time with an improved calculation method. From now on, all those buying a used vehicle will be informed about the car's mileage based on the revised calculation means adopted in 2008.

According to Autoblog, the new numbers can be applied to used cars that have been produced all the way back in 1984.

To find out the mileage on an older vehicle, both the used cars dealers and the possible buyers can go to the following link and choose the make of the car, the year of the car, the model and its options. Based on that information, the program automatically reveals a sticker detailing all the required information.
