Usain Bolt is also known as the fastest man on earth, but did you ever wonder if he could live up to his reputation in space? As it turns out, he could. And he did.
The Olympic legend took place in a special event put together by G.H. Mumm champagne, which released the special space edition earlier this year. While there, in between posing for pictures and having fun in zero gravity, he also agreed to a race with an actual astronaut.
You can see it in the video below. The tweet right under went online after the fact, with Usain describing running in zero gravity as an “out of this world experience.” He must mean that literally.
His rivals for the unique race, taking place on board an Airbus Zero-G plane flying above France, were French astronaut Jean-Francois Clervoy and designer Octave De Gaulle, who actually created the bottle for Mumm’s Grand Cordon Stellar special edition champagne. Before heading for the start, the 3 enjoyed a glass of bubbly on board, but it clearly did little in terms of making Usain any slower. As you can see in the video, he left his rivals in the non-existent dust.
No word on what Usain got for winning the race, but all 3 went home with a bottle of the special champagne, which they’ll be able to take to space with them.
Mumm Grand Cordon Stellar took 3 years to develop and comes in a bottle with a special mechanism that releases the champagne in the form of tiny foam goblets. Toasters can scoop those with a special Mumm glass; once ingested, the foam returns to liquid form, and the sensation is like nothing you’ve experienced before. Or so say the team behind the idea.
Before Grand Cordon Stellar becomes available for tourists going to the Moon or Mars, it will be served aboard the luxury supersonic airliner French Concorde.
