Slated to debut either in Paris this October or in Detroit early next year, the advent of the BMW G30 5 Series also comes with the demise of the BMW F10 M5. The thing with the 2016 BMW F10 M5 is that it isn’t going to be killed off without a proper bang.
Earlier today, the BMW M division presented the so-called Competition Edition. Only 200 examples will ever be made, but the U.S. won’t get any of them. Instead, the U.S. market gets the BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition. Is that the coolest name ever for a limited-run car? Most probably.
Before anything, it should be noted that the Pure Metal Silver doesn’t come with a selection of Judas Priest bangers on the infotainment system’s internal memory. On the upside, it does come with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. With 600 ponies and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm), to be more specific.
Because it is just as powerful as the 30 Jahre M5, this limited edition model can sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. For a mid-size sedan with five seats and a large trunk, that’s mighty impressive. Similarly impressive is the retail price: $130,900 plus the $995 destination and handling charge.
Regardless of the fact this is one of the final, if not the final limited edition BMW F10 M5 to set foot on American soil, it also happens to be quite limited. More to the point, only 50 units of the German sedan will ever be produced.
The lucky bastards who will get their hands on a BMW M5 Pure Metal Silver are offered plenty of standard equipment. The Competition Package is the highlight, though. It lowers the vehicle by 0.4 inches over a regular M5, adds 20-inch forged wheels, firmer dampers, and M carbon ceramic brakes.
If you want a Pure Metal Silver, you’d better ring your nearest BMW dealer as soon as possible because this rarefied breed will sell like hot cakes.
