Toyota’s Valenciennes plant in France has recently started producing the Yaris model for North America, after the automaker spent €10 million in adapting the facility in order to make the US spec compatible cars.
As Toyota plans to launch a new model in Japan and needs the factory there freed up a little bit, more than 10 percent of the estimated 25,000 Yaris units per year for the US was shifted to the French plant. The plant was also specially adapted in order to produce 1.5-liter petrol engines bolted to automatic transmissions, that will fit the cars scheduled to be exported across the pond.

The first lot of Toyota Yaris subcompacts will be on its way to American soil on May 21st, while the Canadian one will leave earlier, on May 19th.
