Cheap and not very cheerful is what Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi has in store for its US customers. Suzuki has stopped selling cars in America after years of bad sales figures, but the guys with the three-diamond logo still think they’ve got the US’s number, and it has three cylinders!
Usually when superminis are re-engineered for US subcompact consumers, much bigger engines are offered. For example, the Kia Rio gets a 1.6-liter motor, while everywhere else the range stops at 1.4. But the Mirage subcompact will not get a big engine at all.

Instead, it will be offered with the 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit under its hood, which should produce no more than 80 horsepower. Transmission options should include a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

The car is built at Mitsubishi Thailand's Laem Chabang plant and will go on sale in the US in September 2013. We bet you just can’t wait!

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
