All the luxury automaker had to do in order to increase its GX model sales was to give it a facelift, take out some of the standard equipment and lower the price by $4,700. Now the compact SUV sells like hot cakes and you’ll need to dig a lot in order to find one for sale at an US dealership.
According to Edmunds’ report, Lexus had only a nine-day supply of GX models in stock through the middle of January, way lower than a 60-day supply they feel comfortable with.
"It certainly has brought in some great traffic. Dealers have done wonderfully with GX. We just can't build them quick enough." said Lexus Group vice president and general manager Jeff Bracken.
He also said that the plant in Japan is slowly ramping up the GX production to match the demand, but it will take a while to build the supply.
