US F1 Assets Sold for $1.4 Million

What was at one point the ultimate American Dream inside the Formula One Championship has now been sold for the total amount of $1.4 million. According to ESPNF1, it seems that the auction in which all the assets of the former US Grand Prix Engineering (or US F1, call it what you may) were put up for sale has raised the aforementioned sum.

Among the 427 lots - including bins, computers, tools, a vacuum cleaner, a forklift, a barbeque, a wheel rim and an unopened bottle of champagne - was a carbon fibre mock-up of the unraced chassis, which sold for $7,850,” said a report from ESPNF1.

The team was supposed to become the 13th entry in the 2010 Formula One championship, but lack of funds and late development of their F1 challenger were only a couple of reasons for which the Charlotte-based organization was unable to be there at the start of the F1 campaign. Eventually, the team was shut down, with investors also going their own way after the project was terminated.

Despite the negative news – which signals the definitive death of the project formerly headed by Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson – it seems that all is not lost for the US. According to some recent reports from Autosport, Parris Mullins, the advisor to YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley during his involvement at US F1, has recently held some talks with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone on setting up another US project.

With F1's presence in the US confirmed from the 2012 season onwards – in Austin, Texas – the plan is for an American investor to take over an already established team in the series. BMW Sauber Ferrari and Scuderia Toro Rosso have already been thrown into the mix, but no details were revealed by Mullins.
