The production of ethanol in the US has reached its lowest point for the last 27 months, mainly due to the shutdown of several plants, including the one at Abengoa, in Madison, Wisconsin, which produced some 88-million gallons of ethanol per year. Apparently, some 983.9-million gallons were produced in September, which represents a 9.4% decreases from the previous month.
This is the lowest value recorded for some time, with the last negative record dating back to February of 2011, when production was 1,051-million gallons. This is also a hot debate topic, for US presidential candidates Obama and Romney, who have differing views when it comes to ‘alternative fuels’ and the country’s dependence on foreign resources, and mainly oil.
To make matters worse, the production of biodiesel also went down in september, following a four-month decline.
