It seems that the slow trend towards renewable and ‘green’ is slowly trickling into the minds of more and more Americans. While most will still opt to buy a useless SUV which they will drive in town, some are beginning to understand the importance of a clean environment and, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) it is beginning to show in the real world.
The AEI says that the US is now using 124,000 barels of oil per day less than what they used to. This means that the level of oil consumption has dropped from around 8.5 million barrels per day (bbl/d) to somewhere in the region of 8.4 bbl/d - a notable improvement.
This is considerably lower than the 2007 level, when consumption peaked at 9.3 million bbl/d. To give you an idea, 124,000 barels of oil represent no fewer than 19,700,000 liters of oil - that’s a lot to save in a single day! It is finally a step in the right direction, considering the imminent rise in oil prices, in the coming decade.
