Starting at $38,240 and topping at $62,000-plus in the United States, the Gladiator is one expensive mid-size pickup truck. But it’s a Jeep, right? Dealerships are delighted with the Wrangler-inspired workhorse, adding markups as high as $20,000 over the suggested retail price.
But wait, there’s more! Approximately 60 percent of the inventory consists of the Rubicon and Overland, the range-topping trim levels. As if that wasn’t enough, “there are dealers piling on Mopar lift kits and custom wheel-and-tire combos.” The hype is real, alright!

Car & Driver reports “heaps of absurd Gladiator listings.” More to the point, “you'll find Rubicons listed above $80,000, bare-bones Sport S trims on skimpy tires for $70,000, and base Sport trims in the $50,000s.” Given these circumstances, it would be in your best interest to wait out a few months until the hype dies down along with these markups.

Paying over retail is an extremely bad decision in every respect, but more so if you go for the Gladiator Sport. That configuration comes with manual-winding windows, something that we wouldn’t have imagined possible on a 2020 model at this price point. In addition to dealers, Jeep themselves know that customers would put up with anything to get their hands on the automaker’s first pickup truck since the 1992 Comanche.

For the first year on the market, you’ll find it hard to get the Gladiator at a fair price considering the high demand and high resale value. Forget about price negotiations too, but if you insist, don’t forget there are plenty more mid-size pickup trucks out there. Better still, don’t forget the Ram 1500 is $355 more affordable than the Gladiator.

Four trim levels are available in total, namely the Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon. All of them feature 4x4 and the Pentastar V6 as standard, tuned to produce 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Next year, the EcoDiesel V6 will be introduced to the Jeep and Ram with 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.
