The third Mercedes-Benz model to be built on Daimler's MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform after the more volume-based A-Class and B-Class, the CLA “four door coupe” has been regarded by pretty much everyone as the “baby CLS”.
With a similar rakish roof shape as its bigger brother, the Mercedes-Benz CLA is also the cheapest four-door in the Germans' lineup and, after a rather successful career in Europe it will soon be launched in the land of the free as well.
Starting from $29,900, it thus becomes the most affordable and one of the best-looking Mercedes-Benz models on the current United States market.
MB USA decided to preview most of the model's functions and qualities with the help of a part commercial, part review of the model, helped by who the Germans probably think is a 98 percentile targeted customer for the car.
In the beginning, the US-spec Mercedes-Benz CLA will only be available in 250-guise, which means that the most aerodynamic production car in the world will sport a two-liter turbocharged four-pot that outputs 211 metric horsepower and 350 Nm (258 lb ft), available in either front-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. Later on it will be sidekicked by the bonkers 45 AMG model, for the ones in need of a more muscular CLA.
