US 2011 Mazda2 Coming Sooner

We don't know exactly the reason for this, but it appears that Mazda is planning to introduce the new Mazda2 in the United States a bit sooner than initially scheduled. The Japanese carmaker previously said the car will hit American dealerships as soon as late summer but the guys over at KickingTires are claiming that Mazda now moved up the launch date to early summer.

The only possible reason behind this decision is probably the positive feedback it received following the public display at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the fast recovery the US market is recording these days.

Earlier this day, we reported to you that the US-bound Mazda2 underwent a new upgrade, this time concerning the interior. Mazda reworked the interior and modified the trim levels with the addition of new features such as an upgraded audio head unit, higher-grade climate control knobs, and seats with higher-grade fabric and stylish piping.

Curiously, Mazda is still keeping technical specifications and pricing secret, although it seems like the launch moment is quickly approaching.

However, we do know that power will come from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder powerplant mated to either a five-manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Milage details are yet to be disclosed but Mazda's officials emphasized that it will excel in fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

"Mazda2 will be the most fuel-efficient car in our showroom, and the most fuel-efficient car ever sold in North America by Mazda," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, according to AP. "It is everything that the other cars in our lineups are, just in a more focused package."
