Mortdecai is the name of a new comedy movie which will hit the cinemas this month, and it brings a lot of big (and beautiful names) together for a high dose of classic British 007-ish haute-tension action. We know that merely naming some of the actors, will cause you to instantaneously skip the reading and hit play on the trailer below, but we cannot help it.
Mortdecai stars Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn and Paul Bettany, plus a very special feature from … Ural sidecar motorcycles. If it’s a “British action” movie, it’s obvious that exquisite vehicles could not be left aside, and luckily for Ural, the script went for a two-up classic ride, which simply screams “sidecars”.

The chase scenes are all real and no less than three identical bikes have been used in the movie, complete with their corresponding sidecars. The Urals have been ridden by professional stunt doubles, but according to motorbiker, who has inside info, all the action is as real as it gets, with no green screen editing.

The film crew needed 7 nights to shot these scenes in different locations in London and even had to close a dual carriageway for certain parts. Even if we could almost place bets that Ewan McGregor would be at the heart of motorcycle riding action in Mortdecai, it turned out that the scrip has Paul Bettany’s character behind the bars.

Well, Mortdecai premieres tomorrow (23 January) in the States, and this means riders around the world only have to wait a little until the movie reaches cinemas on the Old Continent. According to imdb.com, Mortdecai is about “Juggling angry Russians, the British Mi5, and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai [who] races to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain a code that leads to lost Nazi gold.” Not bad for a funny afternoon, and if it has bikes, all the better!
