Ural Motorcycles has been burning the midnight oil and a new special edition machine will be soon unveiled. Total secrecy unveils the new Ural project, and we only know that the upcoming bike will be related to the outer space in one way or another.
That is, because of the name the project got, “Mir”, is a Russian word which stands for both “world” or “universe” and “peace”. While we were at first we thought that the new Ural had something to do with the concept of world in a touring, ride-the-world way. Still, after watching the video teaser, the promo photo on their website and coupling this with the “Landing soon” message, things became a bit clearer. Well, sort of.

Fully-loaded sidecars expected

Since almost all the special edition Ural bikes were sidecar models, we can expect the Mir to be a three-wheeler as well, fully-loaded with all the updates the 2014 model year bikes received. This means we’re most likely going to look at a traditional 749cc air-cooled 4-stroke boxer engine with a square cylinder architecture (78mm or 3.1-inch bore and stroke), capable of delivering 41 horsepower at 5,500 revs and 42 lb-ft (57 Nm) of torque at 4,300 rpm.

The new Ural engines are fuel injected and come with kick and electric start, a 4-speed+ 1 reverse gearbox actuated by a double-disc dry clutch and shaft final drive. Whether the Ural Mir will also sport sidecar shaft drive or not is uncertain at the moment, though we do hope the bike will be a 2WD model.

Modern Sachs shock absorbers are expected, with the 3-disc brake array and Brembo caliper, possibly with Marzocchi forks in case the Mir is derived from the M70 model. A launch date for the Ural Mir was not announced yet, but we’ll definitely see it at the EICMA in early November, even though Ural might unveil it sooner.
