Update on the Porsche Panamera

The fourth model to be series produced by German manufacturer Porsche will not only bring controversy-stirring looks and inhumanly high prices. The Panamera is to use, as Porsche says, innovations that are the first of their type to be used in a luxury segment vehicle.

The upgrades in technology include the first start/stop system to be used on an automatic transmission, air suspension system with on demand air volume, as well as a multistage adjustable rear spoiler.

Featuring the PDK transmission, the Panamera makes use of double-clutch gearbox. The PDK uses its overdrive-like top gear as a tool to minimize fuel consumption and in conjunction with the start/stop system, the Panamera S uses 10.8l every 100 km (26.2 mpg) it travels, according to New European Driving Cycle.

The adaptive air suspension, standard on the Turbo version and optional on the others, offers extra air volume whenever it is required. By using the Sport Plus button, the optional Sports Chrono Packages enable the driver to switch drivetrain and suspension settings to suit his/her needs.
All Panamera models can be enhanced by adding the active stability control, in combination with a rear axle differential.

The Panamera also features a complete cover on the under-floor. It extends all round the drivetrain tunnel and rear-end silencers, helping to reduce both air resistance and lift forces on the axles. Together with the active four-way rear spoiler on the Panamera Turbo, the cover makes for a lower fuel consumption and higher driving dynamics.

The Porsche Panamera will make its first appearance, as we previously reported, at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show. Porsche tries to soften the blow given by their strange decision regarding the location for the world debut of the Panamera by releasing every now and then new info, specs or prices about the vehicle. Enough to get our interest up, but not enough to make us go all the way to China.
