Upcoming Viano to Fill the Gap Left by The R-Class

The R-Class crossover was far from being a commercial success, despite the fact that most reviews gave it a lot of thumbs up for its comfort and interior space. Now that the model is gone, Mercedes-Benz will apparently replace the void left by its absence by two models: the already unveiled X166 GL-Class and the upcoming new generation of the Viano passenger van.

This bit of info comes from a motoring.com.au article that was written after the Aussies had a chat with Diane Tarr, who is the general manager for the van division of Mercedes-Benz Australia.

The new Viano, already scooped by our spy-photographers during testing in the beginning of the month, is to arrive on most left hand drive markets at the beginning of 2014, while the RHD version will be launched almost a year later.

According to Diane Tarr, the upcoming Viano will sport an array of “passenger car-orientated systems and technologies”, making it sound like van-like part of the new model will much more subdued.
