The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz Viano is getting closer and closer to its late-2013 or early 2014 release date, so the Stuttgart engineers are hard at work testing the last technical bits of the model before the start of mass production.
While the prototypes shared in the photo gallery bellow are still wearing heavy camouflage, most of the design details can be seen or at least imagined, especially since the official Mercedes-Benz design sketches for the car have been leaked.

On top of that, X-Tomi Design has already provided a rather crude rendering of the Viano's production version based on the aforementioned sketches.

As we mentioned before, the car is expected to move into a more upscale territory even when talking about the base versions, with the old 5 G-Tronic transmission being finally phased out by either the 7 G-Tronic or the new hyper-efficient 9-speed automatic – on higher-powered version only.

Some contradicting reports had surfaced a few weeks ago stating that the most potent engines will no longer be represented by V6 but by more efficient turbocharged four-cylinders, whether we're talking about diesel or gasoline units. Until further info appears, we won't know if the last information will be true for all markets.
