In a recent interview, Tobias Moers, the boss of the AMG division at Mercedes-Benz, has announced that his subordinates are developing an AMG version of this particular gearbox. It will be called AMG Speedshift 9 and will debut on the upcoming E63 AMG, expected to come to market in less than two years’ time.

The next Mercedes-AMG E63 will also be fitted with an electronically controlled rear differential, similar to the one used by the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. With the new nine-speed transmission and the fancy differential, the upcoming E63 AMG is expected to be astonishingly fast. It will also be the first AMG car to be fitted with a nine-speed automatic gearbox, one that the AMG boss claims to be "ultra-quick."

In his interview with the guys at Car&Driver, Tobias Moers also states that a cabriolet version of the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is a strong possibility. Just like the Coupe version, the drop-top Mercedes-AMG C63 will have a different design compared to the standard version, along with the expected performance improvements.

Apart from that, Moers has also revealed his intentions of transforming the AMG GT into a family of high-performance cars, and some say that a cabriolet version of this model is to be expected. The official skimped on details regarding the future expansion of the AMG GT range, but the guys over at Car&Driver say that the front grill on the AMG GT3 model will be featured on several products launched by the Daimler branch in Affalterbach.

After raking up production for the V12 engines, the guys over at Mercedes-AMG plan to further develop this particular unit. Tobias Moers says that he and his colleagues plan to keep this unit fascinating and to differentiate it from its V8 siblings regarding power. This means that the V12 unit found in some AMG cars is to receive a power hike, and the head of the AMG division says that a four wheel drive option isn't excluded.
