The veils are off and the 2015 BMW M3 and M4 made their world debuts at Detroit yesterday. The guys from AutoGuide were on the scene to take a closer look at how the two look like.
Needless to say everyone loves the way they look but when it comes to M cars, that’s not even half the story. The M3 and M4 have to deliver some pretty mind-boggling performance on the road and on the track in order to be considered a success. That being said, the specs they claim are pretty impressive and might just do the trick.

Just Craig points out standing next to the M3, the cars will be sharing a new S55 3-liter biturbo turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that makes 431 HP and 550 Nm of torque. Fitted with a good old manual 6-speed gearbox, the two will jump to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.3 seconds, 0.2 seconds when fitted with the dual-cluth 7-speed auto.

The number of innovations introduced are also impressive. Most revolve around the extended usage of CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer) that now replaces traditional materials in areas such as the roof, boot lid, struts and even prop shaft. All these small alterations made the M3 and M4 lighter than their predecessors by up to 100 kgs, tipping the scales under 1.5 tones.

Having less weight to carry around and a smaller, turbocharged engine, the two are also more efficient and release up to 25 % less CO2 into the atmosphere, fitting into the BMW EfficientDynamics profile. Take a closer look at both of them in the video below.
