Unspoiled 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park Is Pure American V8 Wagon

Take a look at what the industry has to offer today in terms of station wagons. You either get rather utilitarian, boring machines, or high-performance German ones, both categories generally coming from abroad and showing bodies that seem to have nothing special about them.

Then move your eyes over this Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park from 1990. Now, this is how station wagons should look like: massive, if possible wood-trimmed, and with a mighty American V8 under the hood.

Mercury’s Colony Park was born in 1957 as a full-size station wagon. It was at the top of the food chain in Ford’s entry-level premium brand, and was kept in production, including as a variant of the Grand Marquis, until 1991.

That makes the one we have here not only a perfect representation of what full-scale American wagons used to mean but also a special one, given how it was among the last to roll off assembly lines.

The car has had its share of owners during the three or so decades it has been around, but it remains in very good shape. It would seem all of its owners agreed it was something worth caring for and were careful to preserve both the wagon and the proof of servicing done to it over the years. We’re told it comes with maintenance receipts from 1995 to 2019, totaling over $10,250.

Sporting the unspoiled look it had on when it rolled off the assembly lines, down to the wood paneling running on both sides from front to back, it is powered by a 302ci (5.0-liter) V8 running a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.

The wagon shows 57,000 miles (91,700 km) of use and was recently on sale on Vintique Motors. We’re not told for how much it went for - or what the new owner's plans are for it. We only hope we won’t see it spoiled in a way that strips it of its charm.
