Just recently, the upcoming sixth-generation M3 Touring (G81) was again teased by the Bavarian automaker sporting its full camouflage attire. But, compared to recent spy shots of prototypes, there was a twist.
Not a major one, although it does have sizeable dimensions. So, instead of an uninterrupted dizzying attire, the M3 Touring also sported the “bring it on” message along with an outline of the legendary Nürburgring racetrack. Sure, the idea doesn’t come as a surprise, even when considering the station wagon body style.
The basic gist behind the M3 Touring is simple, no matter how the incessant teasing and numerous instances of spied prototypes would try and fool someone into thinking for a moment that BMW is reinventing the proverbial wheel. They are going to have all the sedan goodies packed into a more practical body style.
After all, even soccer dads/moms want to duke it out on the Nordschleife from time to time, right? But there’s also a problem. BMW is only going to give us the satisfaction of hooning over 500 horsepower (in Competition trim) along with groceries, the mother-in-law, bikes, dogs, footballs, Barbie dolls, (etc.) sometime next year.
Until then, we are left trying to peel off the camouflage layers. Well, according to motor.es, there’s a virtual solution. And because of the angle of the CGI project, we’re pretty sure this digital M3 Touring is very close to what’s in store for production.
Frankly, it would have been a lot more informative to have the upcoming high-performance version portrayed from behind. After all, this is a station wagon, and chances are the front won’t stray away too much from the sedan sibling. Besides, that would have given us the chance to spend another day without having to ogle at the ugly-duckling M3 kidney grille...
Well, you really can’t have everything in life, especially since the oversized styling element is probably here to stay for the foreseeable future.
