University of North Carolina Partners with Zipcar

The car sharing programs created by specialized company Zipcar is gaining more and more attention in campuses across the US, with more universities partnering with the company for their services. To date, more than 200 universities have joined the program.

The latest campus to join the Zipcar program is the one of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), who announced today the availability of the program to all students ages 18 and up and to community members 21 years and older.

For the university members, including students, Zipcar will charge $8 per hour and $66 per day for the use of their vehicles. The prices include gas, 180 miles per day, insurance, reserved parking spots and roadside assistance.

"The parking and transportation culture at UNCG is changing. We have been working hard to expand our Campus Access Management programs to bring sustainable transportation options to the community," said Scott Milman, director of Auxiliary Services at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

"Zipcar provides a new level of freedom to our students, staff, and faculty, allowing access to cars as they need them, without the hassles of ownership."

For the Greensboro University, Zipcar will be providing only four vehicles, two located on Gray Drive and two on College Avenue. As all those using Zipcar do, those interested can use an iPhone app to book and locate a Zipcar.

"We've seen countless universities across North America and the UK benefit from our car sharing service, which is a convenient, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly transportation option. We are confident that the UNCG campus will also experience these same benefits and that it will no longer be essential for individuals to bring their own cars to campus," added Matthew Malloy, vice president of Global University Operations at Zipcar.
