Unique McLaren MP4-12C Is Now for Sale

A special wing from McLaren, called Special Operations (MSO), has built 10 unique MP4-12C cars, and now one of them is up for sale at the Mecum Auctions’ Kissimmee 2016 event. This particular one is the chassis number 9 and is one of a kind because of some special features.

The unique MP4-12C High Sport is the first car ever built by MSO to be painted in full Vodafone Formula 1 racing livery. On the exterior, the model features redesigned front and rear bumpers and a couple of other elements borrowed from McLaren’s GT3 race cars.

The vehicle has been commissioned by McLaren’s CEO and Chairman Ron Dennis, a fact that is documented in a letter included with the car. The High Sport also has a special treat under the hood: signatures from the winning McLaren team drivers and crew to celebrate victory at the 2011 Nurburgring Grand Prix, in Germany.

Inside, what captures your attention at first glance is the amount of carbon fiber used in this car, along with the Alcantara and leather that dresses most of the interior, which is painted in F1 team colors as well. It also features a Meridian sound system with integrated navigation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Together with all of these, chassis no. 9 features some special options, such as 20-inch diamond cut wheels, specially designed travel cases, the Stealth Package, sport exhaust, carbon fiber ceramic brakes, and a carbon fiber engine cover.

According to Mecum Auctions, this one-of-a-kind McLaren comes together with a fair amount of important awards, including “Best British Import” at the Festivals of Speed at Amelia Island in 2014, “Best in Show” at Cars on Fifth in Naples, Florida, and the “Best in Show, People’s Choice” at the 2015 Festival of Speed in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The engine is the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that powers the normal MP4-12C. The 592bhp and 442 lb-ft of torque are delivered to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The car goes from 0 to 60mph in just 3 seconds and has a top speed of 205mph.

The people who want this car in their collection will have to pay somewhere between $1,300,000 and $1,600,000. It might sound like a lot of money, but considering the owner will have the only McLaren of its kind, it’s somehow explainable.
