Undertaker Special: Maserati Ghibli Hearse by Ellena Autotrasformazioni

I don’t mean to be Captain Obvious because I hate superhero capes, but dying isn’t nice. To die is just the course of all echelons of carbon-based life. But as it happens, treading into the underworld can be a special thing to do as long as the dearly departed are driven to the other side in a Maserati Ghibli hearse.

Introducing the Autofunebre Ellena G 3.0. The XXL-sized creation in the adjacent video and photo gallery comes courtesy of an Italian company called Ellena Autotrasformazioni. First, let us go through its dimensions: 6,620 mm (260.6 in) long, 1,945 mm (76.5 in) wide, 2,350 mm (92.5 in) long coffin compartment, and 950 mm (37.4 in) for the coffin bay height.

Although it is not as long or majestic as the Rolls-Royce Phantom-based Hearse B12, the Autofunebre Ellena G 3.0 is the sportier way to drive to the cemetery. And even though it is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbo diesel instead of a six-cylinder engine running on high-octane jungle juice, this hearse happens to make a genuinely enjoyable sound under acceleration.

Regarding performance, the standard Maserati Ghibli with a diesel engine is good for 6.3 seconds to 62 mph (100 km/h) and 155 mph (250 km/h). That’s what 271 horsepower (275 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) can do to a car that weighs 4,211 pounds (1,910 kilograms). Ellena’s conversion, on the other hand, weighs a bit more. It appears to be sufficiently quick, though.

According to Ellena Autotrasformazioni, the rear section of the Autofunebre Ellena G 3.0 is made from fiberglass, while the tailgate can be open either from a button inside a car or via remote control. The hearse further boasts goodies such as a removable stainless steel cross, automatic flatbed, and faux nautical leather throughout the coffin compartment. Still, what a way to go!

While we're on the subject of holy things, two Roman Catholic nuns from Poland are having the time of their lives in a white-painted BMW i8.
