Ever since the Audi R8 V10 Plus showed it could beat the Lamborghini Huracan to 60 mph, the supercar world has been crazy about Audi's second-gen supercar. And while the not-Cinderella-anymore status of the new R8 becomes irrelevant in the tuning world, we're still overly thrilled to introduce the first twin-turbo 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus.
The boosted development comes from North Carolina-based Underground Racing. While the project has recently enjoyed its shakedown, the developer is ready to unleash its full TT line-up.
This means the 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus gets a six-stage upgrade program, split between street and race applications. The road-friendly versions range between 800 and 1,250 wheel horsepower, with the engine being left stock up to 1,000 whp.
As for the racing incarnations, we're talking about a 1,500 hp adventure, which will be offered with a dual-clutch tranny soon (this features the usual sequential setup for now), as well as about the infamous X package, which can deliver north of 2,200 whp.
"Audi has outdone themselves with the new model and we just made it a lot better. Preliminary testing has been a great success. Driving an Underground Racing TT R8+ is something that should only be experienced, not explained. Pulling away on launch control with the 7 Speed LDF dual-clutch transmission and the help of some boost which is controlled via our proprietary JRR MoTeC M1 electronics and firmware with the additional horsepower is just that, an experience," the specialist explains.
Given the fact that Underground Racing currently holds the quarter mile world record for twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracan, while also experimenting with an even more powerful incarnation of the V10 Raging Bull, we expect their R8 program to be nothing short of a blast.
