With only six cars ever built, the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Roadster is the second rarest CLK-GTR in history, after the only two-made Super Sport versions.
After only 20 road-going versions of the CLK-GTR were built to comply with FIA GT1 regulations back in the late 1990's, Mercedes-Benz also made a Roadster version of the car. Built in 2002 by HWA (Hans Werner Aufrecht, who puts the A in AMG), the Roadster version of the CLK-GTR was at the time listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the world's most expensive road car.

Looking at it from a different point of view, when one of these six cars gets sold it is bound to make the news. Which is what's going to happen at the upcoming Monterey Car Auction that will take place on 16-17 August, this week.

Chassis number 0003 of the six built will be put on sale by Mecum Auctions, and its price could fetch four figures at the minimum, especially since the car is technically a garage queen, with only 71 driven miles on the clock.

On top of that, the car has been freshly serviced in March 2013 by a team of technicians specially flown in from HWA's headquarters in Germany.

In short, this is a hand-built, hyper-rare, V12, mid-engine roadster from Mercedes-Benz that any modern supercars collector would be more than jolly about owning. You can check out some photos of the model - including the only RHD model in existence, made for the Sultan of Brunei – in the gallery below.
