Even before the F80 M3 and F82 M4 were released, BMW admitted that their E9x models could’ve been lighter. A lot of people complained that the previous gen model was too heavy and the Germans tried to make ammends.
For those hardcore fans that wanted the lightest possible vehicle they created the like of the limited-edition GTS and CRT models. The former was built in the Coupe body style alone in just 250 units while the latter was a Sedan only version and was even more exclusive, only 67 ever being made.

The CRT acronym stands for Carbon Fiber Technology and that’s exactly what was infused inside the character and body of this limited-run car. The engine was shared with the GTS model, a 4.4-liter V8 based on the stock 4-liter unit, making 450 HP.

However, the sedan wasn’t fitted with a roll-cage and racing seats, like the coupe. Instead it was decked with a full navigation system, high-end sound system and many luxurious amenities as standard. Using carbon fibre in the most unexpected places (like the seat backs for example) the special edition model turned out lighter than the standard version by around 155 lbs (70 kg). Having 30 extra HP, the differences were notable.

One such beauty was just spotted in Belgium by the guys from Autogespot, in its unique frozen grey paint, wearing matte black M wheels too. It’s a simply breathtaking machine that used to cost €130,000 in Germany when it was released. In case you want one today, you’ll surely have to pony up a lot more than that as it’s one of the most exclusive M3 special models out there.
