In production since 2010 and also known as the Outlander Sport and RVR, the Mitsubishi ASX gains an all-new turbo diesel engine tailored for the United Kingdom. The EURO 6-compliant oil burner makes do with 112 brake horsepower and produces an insignificant 119 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
What that means for the prospective buyer is zero VED in the first year of ownership. The 1.6 Di-D is mated to a six-speed manual tranny on front and all-wheel drive models. There’s a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters available as well, but that’s reserved only for the 2.2-liter turbo diesel we know from the Outlander.
The entry-level 1.5-liter petrol makes do with 115 bhp and a five-speed transmission. The UK-specification ASX lineup has undergone a name change as well, with the new range consisting of the entry-level ASX ZC, ASX ZC-M and top-of-the-range ASX ZC-H.
That’s not all there is to the revised ASX though. Aesthetic-wise, changes see the addition of “more dynamic looking wheel arches” for the ASX ZC-M and ASX ZC-H, as well as two-tone 18-inch alloys. Mitsubishi UK trumpets that we’re also dealing with “widespread updates to the interior,” which translates to a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel with audio buttons, and leather on the gear knob.
As standard, the entry-level Mitsubishi ASX ZC makes do with small alloy wheels, air con, remote keyless entry, 7 airbags, fog lights, bulbs for daytime running lights, a USB port, privacy glass, a cup holder in the rear armrest, a high-contrast LCD display and chrome for the beltline moulding. The first units of the updated UK-spec Mitsubishi ASX are en route to dealerships as we speak.
