UK's First Car Crash Simulator Ready to Hit the Wall

With drivers aged between 17 and 24 in mind and the goal set to reduce the number of accidents occurring on UK roads, Steve Screaton, from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, developed the country's first car crash simulator.

In essence a modified Peugeot 206, the car will be used by the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership to scare the hell out of those climbing aboard. Although the car is just a simulator (meaning it does not move while the accident is simulated), it features a DVD screen, high quality sound and a hydraulic suspension system which are used to give the impression of a real accident for those inside. The addition of a smoke machine nearby enhances the scary simulation.

“I have been in it myself and it is very realistic. It is as close as you can possibly get without being involved in an accident yourself," John Siddle of Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership was quoted as saying by granthamjournal.co.uk.

“It goes through the motions of being driven at high speed and then simulates a crash. Then it goes through the scenario of the emergency services arriving at the scene and people being cut out of the car."

“You can even hear people inside the car shouting for help. Some people have come out of it with a very changed outlook on how they are going to behave in a motor vehicle.”

The simulator will be taken by its creators to events across the country.
