For a while, Nissan had been relying on only two models to wow most of its European customers, the Juke and the Qashqai crossover. The rest of the range was expensive sportscars, big and expensive 4x4s and a few very ugly imports.
We think there's another household Nissan name on the way. The same factory in Sunderland that makes the crossovers will also make the new Note.
The second generation model is marketed as a B-segment car, but at 4.1 meters it's actually quite big. Completely redesigned from the ground up, it's also filled with technology to make your life easier and quite a lot better looking than the old model.
The car is going to be available with either a 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit that generates 80PS, a 98PS 1.2-liter supercharged DIG-S and a 1.5-liter dCi diesel that produces 90PS. A CVT transmission is available on the 1.2-liter DIG-S engine, which we tested on the Micra last year.
Soon to go on sale across Britain, the "New Note" starts at £11,900. The Entry-level Visia comes with Idle stop/start, front electric windows, remote central locking and cruise control.
Acenta models start at £13,250 and add alloy wheels (15-inch as standard, 16-inch on DIG-S), air-conditioning, Bluetooth and a sliding rear seat bench. Acenta Premium variants start at £14,150 and feature NissanConnect, climate control and automatic lights and wipers. Acenta Premium models will also be available with the option of Around View Monitor and the three Nissan Safety Shield technologies for just £400 extra.
Finally, there's the range-topping Tekna model which starts at £15,950 and features 16-inch alloy wheels, part-leather seats, Around View Monitor and the three Nissan Safety Shield technologies as standard, along with Intelligent Key with start/stop button, leather steering wheel and automatic air conditioning.
