UK Officials: Jaguar Must Get Government Money

Even though Tata Motors has already agreed to inject millions of dollars into its British brand Jaguar Land Rover, the UK-based company continues its race for government aid, with officials very close to reach an agreement. According to a report issue by Times Online, Tony Woodley, joint general secretary of Unite, said he's confident that the UK government will approve Jaguar's loan request and unveiled that a decision should be announced before Christmas.

“I’m delighted that Tata has put more financing into the company. It is obviously right that they do so, having bought it only nine months ago,” Woodley told Times Online, explaining that Tata Motors' cash injection play a very important role especially when taking into account Jaguar's financial status.

“I would now be extremely surprised if the Government did not give financial support to the company as well – and I would be very surprised if it wasn’t this side of Christmas. I would be disappointed if there was not confirmation of the availability of a loan or credit guarantees at least,” he added.

But more importantly, Jaguar denies reports claiming that Tata Motors agreed to bring more cash to its British brand, adding a government decision is likely to be announced after Christmas.

“As far as we are concerned, the situation is little changed from how it was last Friday night. I’m not expecting it [a government financial support package] this side of Christmas, but then we are not fully in control of this, it is the Government,” Mark Foster, a Jaguar Land Rover spokesman, commented on the financial status of the company for the aforementioned source.
