UK Launch smart fortwo edition highstyle

Some two months ago, Daimler was introducing the latest addition to the smart fortwo range, namely the edition highstyle, which is now available in the UK as well, with prices starting at £10,900.

Aside from being converted to right-hand drive, the smart fortwo edition highstyle will be available only as a coupe and limited to just 215 units, 180 featuring the 71 bhp (mhd) engine and 33 coming with a turbocharged 84 bhp unit.

The mhd from the 71 bhp version stands for "micro hybrid drive", as Daimler calls it. In fact, this is a start-stop system which shuts down the engine as soon as the driver brakes and the vehicle's speed falls below 8 km/h.

According to the manufacturer's figures, the mhd allows for fuel savings in city driving of around 20 percent.

The edition highstyle’s striking exterior design is thanks to the chocolate brown metallic paint scheme, along with the 2-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels, a silver tridion safety cell and aluminium-look ‘highstyle’ logos.

Standard equipment on the Edition Highstyle includes electric power steering, heated seats, a lockable glove compartment and the smart sound system with 2 tweeters, 2 mid-range speakers, subwoofer and a smart MP3 interface. The model also offers Bluetooth wireless telephony, iPod and USB connectivity.

On the interior, the edition highstyle boasts metallic leather on the seats and in the doors with specially designed for the edition light and dark fabric. The 3-spoke sports steering wheel, the gearshift and gear knob are also covered in leather.
