Some things you simply have to see to believe, and this is one of them. The steering wheel of an Uber vehicle allegedly fell off mid-ride and the driver repeatedly – and calmly – tried to put it back in.
Yes, there is video of it and it has attained viral status, even though it doesn’t show the actual moment when the wheel came off. Instead, it shows a female driver saying “okay okay” as she’s trying to spin it back into place, as if this had happened to her before and she knew of a way to quickly fix it.
While this scene plays out and the rider is shooting it from the backseat, Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose” offers the musical background. At this point, the car has come to a full stop but tragedy could have happened, had this occurred on the interstate, as the rider says in another tweet.
The car seems to be a Land Rover LR2, with rider / Twitter user @_shawndagoat confirming that itwas an “old Land Rover.” That the vehicle was old and in poor condition can also be ascertained by the driver’s armrest, which is ripped and torn.
@_shawndagoat lives in Cairo, Georgia, and while he doesn’t say whether this incident happened in the area, it’s the most likely location. In another tweet, he mentions that he asked to be let off without reaching his destination – as any rational human being would have done, come to think of it.
“She got no tip no stars no nun we jump df out, f**k the money I almost died dat day ‘U CAN LET US OUT RIGHT HERE MAM’,” he writes.
To those criticizing him for not tipping the woman, he says it was only logical he didn’t, considering how many people she put at risk by driving this car.
“This safety issue was brought to our attention,” Uber Support tweeted at the poor rider as the video started gaining views by the thousands on social media. “At Uber we take safety seriously and would like more details regarding this trip. Please send us your phone number via DM and information about your trip.”
As of the time of writing, no word yet on whether he did contact them.
