Like other e-commerce players on the U.S. market, Amazon has been waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration’s green light to start their drone delivery system. Since that service is still pending and may never happen after all, Uber seems to have found a better way to help people get their goods from point A to point B.
It’s called Uber Rush, and the giant ride-sharing service has announced it’s officially open for business in Chicago, New York City and San Francisco. Here’s their announcement:

“Why are we partnering with local businesses to improve delivery? Think about all the times you hop in the car to pick up groceries, house supplies, or Sunday night takeout. These little runs seem harmless, but they add up. In fact, 20% of all trips in the US are just to move things from A to B* – and we’re wasting thousands of hours and gallons taking them.”

Uber says it’s about saving energy, time and eventually money, and that they only want to come and help local businesses to deliver better. According to them, every firm in the cities mentioned above has the power to get customers what they want, when they want it. The ride-sharing app is using business platform partners such as Shopify, Clover, ChowNow, Bigcommerce and BloomNet, as well as local on-demand platforms like delivery.com.

Uniting all into one central app will allow millions of owners to integrate on-demand delivery into their business. This way, they will be able to expand delivery zones and integrate with existing tools and platforms; all these while customers can order and track shipments instantly.

“Businesses that tap into UberRUSH will make getting anything in your city faster, more reliable, and more affordable than picking it up yourself. It’s time to save business owners a headache, save you the trip, and save us all a bit more time.”

Whether or not their plan will work, it’s quite early to tell, but we’re pretty sure Amazon won’t like it.
