Ubco 2x2, the Two-Wheel Drive Electric Enduro Bike

Among so many electric bikes that do pretty much the same thing and look the same, give or take, the Ubco 2x2 stands tall and proud. This two-wheeler looks a bit different and behaves differently from the rest, delivering true all-terrain capabilities from a fairly light package and increased terrainability thanks to its 2WD system.

While most of the electric bicycles and motorbikes offer classic rear-wheel drive, the Ubco 2x2 knows riders will put it through its paces in the toughest scenarios. It packs two air-cooled brushless hub motors, one in each wheel, with a combined power of 2,000 watts, and that's roughly 2.7 hp.

All-wheel drive, however, is a real game-changer, and it will effortlessly tread where other will fail, on rough ground and along muddy trails as need be.

The Ubco 2x2 feels more like a motorcycle

Developed in New Zealand by Anthony Clyde and Daryl Neal, the Ubco 2x2 can be a farmer's ride of choice, and thanks to its zero-emissions and dead-quiet operation it can also be a fun recreational vehicle for trail riders, fishermen, or hunters. Further applications include police work, firefighters, ambulance, relief, and military, while generic commuting and various city errands are also on the list.

The 40 Ah lithium-ion battery pack can be fully recharged in 4 hours using common chargers, and it will provide a range between 70 and 100 km (43-62 miles) on rough ground, with the range extending to 100-150 km (62-93 miles) on flat ground. And with the battery sitting low in the frame, stability is also improved. The top speed is 45 km/h (28 mph).

Ubco 2x2 relies on RST 36mm forks with adjustable air preload and rebound damping settings, while the rear uses a DNM 32mm shock with adjustable air preload, compression and rebound damping. 180mm Tektro hydraulic disk brakes provide stopping power and the 17" knobby tires can handle a lot of abuse, too.

SuperX frame turns it into a tractor

The SuperX 7000 series alloy frame comes with extended strength and stiffness and allows the Ubco 2x2 to haul 174 kg (384 lb). Add in the grippy tires and the strong cargo racks and imagine the possibilities!

Riders also have neat onboard connectivity such as a USB port for recharging handheld devices and can also hook up power tools while in the wild.

With an equivalent fuel economy of 0.32 l/100 km (735 mpg), the Ubco 2x2 costs only 60 cents per 100 km (62 miles), and here you don't need an exchange rate...

Ubco 2x2 can be preordered now, but the price may be a little too steep. It will set you back with $7,000 () plus shipping from New Zealand. We really hope this amazing do-it-all machine will find enough enthusiasts to help cutting the costs a bit and spread to more markets.
