In most countries and states around the world, a driver who does an U-turn near or on the pedestrian crossing will see his or her driving license go poof! for at least a month. Such maneuvers are not only illegal, but they are also very dangerous.
And the danger grows even bigger as the other road users are assuming the motorists will NOT do an U-turn in such places. While the supposition is well-founded and based on common sense, assuming everybody does the same is not good for one's health.
A very good proof can be found in this video, as the driver's maneuver leaves absolutely no escape route and no hope to the incoming (speeding) scooter.
