TXU to Charge McKinney, Texas

One of the biggest electricity suppliers in the US, TXU is currently engaged in an effort to expand its business to the new sector of electric vehicles charging. Having already committed to install chargers in Dallas and Fort Worth back in September, the company now says it will take its new business to the city of McKinney, in the same state of Texas.

The company will install four charging stations and, in addition, will convert, through the TXU Energy EV Accelerator Program, three of the city's vehicles into electric hybrids. The respective vehicles, regular Toyota Priuses, will be turned from hybrids to plug-in hybrids by TXU.

“We’re seeing great customer interest in the benefits of electric vehicles. Our goal is to help customers embrace these benefits,” said Gabe Castro, vice president of business markets for TXU Energy.

“The City of McKinney wants to incorporate electric vehicles and other energy-efficiency measures into their operations. We’re glad we were able to leverage our rebate program to customize this energy savings solution for the city and look forward to seeing it flourish in McKinney.”

TXU is also going to provide the city with $150,000 worth of rebates to support EVs and other energy-efficiency improvements. Just like in Dallas and Forth Worth, the installment of the four charging stations means that EV owners can operate their cars for just as they would pay 75 cents/gallon of gasoline.

“These energy-savers, provided by TXU Energy, mean McKinney continues to be a national leader of innovative, cost-saving, sustainable programs – truly a unique by nature community,“
said McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller.
