Last weekend's sprint car race in Marysville was clouded by a terrible crash that resulted in two fatalities, after an out of control car slammed into the pits.
It all occurred during warmup, when Chase Johnson lost control of his No.17 car while speeding at over 90 miles pe hour. The vehicle left the track and crashed into the pits, killing two people who were in that area.
According to CBS, the victims were 14 and 68 years old, while some reports have indicated that the teenager was actually Chase Johnson's cousin, with the older victim being the owner of some of the cars entered in the Marysville Raceway Park event.
The crash was reportedly caused by a stuck throttle, but no official statement has been released yet. "There must have been a mechanical problem. The car didn't slow down," Steven Blakesley, the race announcer, said.
Unfortunately, Saturday's tragedy isn't the first to occur at Marysville. Almost three years ago, a semi truck race crash killed a driver.
