German manufacturer Mercedes announced today it will introduce two economical four-cylinder for the E-Klasse, namely the E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. As you have guessed, Mercedes will introduce the two with "lower fuel consumption and less environmental pollution" in mind.
The diesel fitted on the E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is a 2.1l 136 hp unit, which has a fuel consumption figure of 5.2 to 5.5 liters per 100 km (42-45 mpg). This particular E-Klasse accelerates from naught to sixty in 10.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
The petrol unit fitted on the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY is a 1.8l engine, developing 184 hp. It accelerates from naught to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and tops at 232 km/h (144 mph). This unit eats up 7.2l of fuel every 100 km and emits 169 g of CO2/km.
The engines are new, says Mercedes, and feature latest-generation common-rail direct injection (diesel) and direct injection (petrol). Both are compliant with the EU5 limits.
Prices for the E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY start at 38,734 euros, while those for the E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY start at 39,508 euros. The two new engines will be made available in September.
Sophisticated, efficient four-cylinder engines make for lower fuel consumption and less environmental pollution without having to compromise on classic Mercedes attributes such as ride comfort and driving enjoyment. As shown by two new E-Class models, which Mercedes-Benz is introducing to complete its engine line-up in the executive category.
