Two More Toyota Accidents Reported

The huge recall announced by Japanese carmaker Toyota was poised to give birth, at one point or another, to more and more accident claims. While it is not our place to judge the truth behind some of those claims, for the sake of objectivity, we have to have our say on at least those who seem far fetched.

We will below tell you two short stories about two Toyota owners who crashed their cars and then blamed it on their malfunction accelerator pedal. One of the stories seems to be backed by proof, while the other points to the mayhem Toyota may have to face from all those trying to take advantage of the recall. You decide which is which.

The first story takes place in Pennsylvania and involves a woman, her Camry and a laundromat. As you have already guessed, the woman lost control of her Camry while trying to park the 2007 vehicle and crashed the car into the laundromat. To blame is, the woman says, the floor mat of the car, who got in the way of the accelerator.

Police indeed found the floor mat of the vehicle on top of the accelerator pedal and, whereas this detail and its truthfulness is open to debate, the woman's story is backed by a laundromat worker who witnessed the scene.

The second story involves a Toyota dealership in Louisiana, a man and his unnamed Toyota truck. rpmgo.com reports that the man took the car to the respective dealership to have his accelerator pedal fixed (for the sake of argument, Toyota will start the repair campaign later this week) and, after having to wait for an indecent period of time, decided to give up and go home.

Unfortunately for him (and conveniently, we might say), while trying to exit the dealership's premises, the truck inexplicably accelerated and crashed into the building. The investigation into the matter is still ongoing....

As we said, we kinda trust one of the stories and completely distrust the other. The one in which we don't trust should be a type of eye opener for both Toyota and police departments. Without hurting anyone's feelings, we are sure the near future will bring countless more ridiculous claims from poor drivers, opportunists, crooks and so on. As they will try to excuse their poor driving skills, escape a fine or criminal record, have their revenge or just gain some type of advantage from Toyota, a sticky accelerator pedal is just the excuse they needed.
