Two More Diesel-Powered 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Go on Sale from 69,496 Euros

The market rollout of the new GLE model from Mercedes-Benz continues at a fast pace, even as the year draws to an end. Already being sold in Europe with both gasoline and diesel engines, the GLE range will expand as of this week with the introduction of two new diesel powertrains.

In Germany, there will be two new six-cylinder diesel models available, disguised as the GLE 350 d 4MATIC and GLE 400 d 4MATIC. The two will join the existing four-cylinder lineup already on the market for a while now.

The launch of the new engines is made possible thanks to the fact that they use an extended exhaust gas after-treatment with an additional underbody SCR catalytic converter.

This technology allows for the engines to comply with Europe’s Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard, at the same time making the GLE the first SUV in its class to meet the requirement, according to Mercedes-Benz.

The GLE 350 d 4MATIC variant of the SUV will sell for 69,496 EUR in Germany and will offer a power output of 272 hp and 600 Nm of torque, while the GLE 400 d 4MATIC brings 330 hp and 700 Nm of torque for 76,100 EUR. Both new variants will be available in spring next year.

The GLE range is to expand with other engines currently in the works, including with a plug-in hybrid that will be launched later down the road.

Having started life as the M-Class, the new GLE is actually the first pure SUV to wear the name, as the 2015 model was only a facelift of the existing M-Class.

The new GLE offers an updated version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience system which debuted on the A-Class earlier in 2018 that offers around 40 different functions, including support for off-road specific driving modes, In-car office feature that can read out emails or have them dictated, and integration for online music.
