Not even 24 hours passed since BMW and Alpina announced that they will be bringing a classic, restored 1970 BMW Alpina 2002ti car to the 2014 Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion that is set to take place at Laguna Seca next Thursday. Today, BMW North America announced that two more classics will join the team.
They are fan favorites, voted as classics in various tops and will be on the scene between August 14 to 17. The two are the No. 25 BMW 3.0 CSL and the BMW M1 IMSA Group 4, both of them part of BMW North America’s collection.

As far as the history behind them goes, they have plenty of things to brag with. The No. 25 BMW 3.0 CSL won the 1975 12 Hours of Sebring and received the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance honors this year, with a Class win.

Being owned and looked after by BMW North America, this is the one model that proved successful in a variety of races across the states, including Sebring, Riverside, Laguna Seca, Daytona and Talladega in 1975. The number 25 3.0CSL will be driven by none other than Ludwig Willisch, the President and CEO of BMW North America and an avid driver himself.

As for the M1 IMSA Group 4 car, the man behind its wheel will be none other than pro driver Randy Pobst that will be driving it next to Mr. Willisch on the Laguna Seca on Saturday, August 16.

The M1 was brought to the US to fight in the popular IMSA GTO Series back in the day, being basically a modified version of the ProCars BMW designed originally. However, this particular car didn’t see too much racing as it was brought along only to be used as a spare car in the Group 4. Even so, it’s always a joy to see the M88/1 engine at work.
