Two Ferrari Dealers Fight Each Other in Court

It's always sad to see two brothers of the same family quarreling over certain issues, finally resorting to court in order to solve out the problem.

Two Ferrari South African dealerships are trying to work their disputes out in the Cape high court today, a recent article on wheels24.co.za reported. The problem? Apparently, Gauteng based Rosso Sport Auto claims its customers are stolen by Cape Town based Viglietti Motors. As a matter of fact, the last one is the only official importer of Ferrari and Maserati to South Africa. In addition, Viglietti, one of the few stand-alone Maserati dealerships globally, sells Maserati products in Gauteng from its Bryanston premises.

Actually, the problems started because of Viglietti’s import and distribution relationship. Rosso accuses Vigliette of disseminating information to customers on Rosso’s waiting list warning that their cars are in fact not allowed to be sold through the Gauteng dealership or officially serviced there. Consequently, an important number of customers have cancelled their orders.

More importantly, the Cape-based dealer is breaking one major Ferarri policy. According to the aforementioned source, the Cape based dealer also allegedly sells Ferrari’s to speculative buyers, who then (in a fashion not at all dissimilar to high-stakes property speculators) resell the vehicles to customers already on the waiting list.

Furthermore, Rosso's boss Pietro Giovanelli accuses Viglietti of having used the large waiting list deposits (between R50 000 and R100 000) to run its business. Normally, the dealership should have deposited the money in a trust account for the prospective buyers.
