Two Alfa Romeo 4Cs Seek Thrills at Monza Track

Ever sine Alfa Romeo came out with the MiTo supermini in 2008, the company has been on a steady slide. In only 6 years, they've gone from a reputable brand with dubious build quality to basically a nonexistent one outside of Italy, culminating with the death of the death of the 159 in 2011.

Four powerful claws are going to pull the company back from the brink, four turbocharged claws we call the 4C. Marking a return to form for the Italian brand, this is their first sportscar in many years a rival to industry heavyweights like the Porsche Cayman.

In typical underdog style, the 4C brings the smallest engine currently fitted to a true sportscar. The 1.75L mill make only 240 hp and 350 Nm of torque, but since it's light as a slice of prosciutto crudo, it only takes 4.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Unlike most cars these days, the 4C has no power steering and very few creature comforts, not that this would bother anybody at the track.

The next video tells the story of two brand new 4C, one red one, Rosso Alfa, and a gray one, Grigio Basalto. Filmed by 19Bozzy92 at the Monza track in Italy, the pair can be seen cutting loose in search of ways to bring back the lost Alfa Romeo brand.

From 2008 to 2012, Alfa Romeo built and sold 200,000 MiTo superminis. By comparison, only a few thousand 4C will be made each year. 500 a year will be coming to the US, even less to the UK. You're just about as likely to see a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. In 10 years time when all the MiTos will have rusted away we'll still remember the exciting, effervescent nature of the 4C a car that dared to be really different. And the best thing about it is that since it's made from carbon fiber, it will never rust.

Editor's note: Punto Abarth, Fiat Panda, Alfas… there's something you never see at the Nurburgring! If somebody brings an Audi to this party, he'll be tarred and feathered.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
