Twizy Car Sharing Program - Trial Underway in France

The Renault Twizy all-electric city runabout will be part of the trial run for car sharing program, which will take place in the “urban community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines,” roughly 30 km southwest of Paris. The trial will involve 50 Twizy EVs which will be driven by the 200 people which will be allowed to sign up.

The run will last until September, and if it is successful, the service will then be available for public use. We think that the Twizy is extremely well suited for car sharing services, with the its limited range other charging-related inconveniences becoming irrelevant (as the cars will always be plugged in when not in use).

They will be included in the lives of people who, for instance want to travel to work using the Twizy in the morning, then just leaving it at a specific location (close to their place of employment) so that another user can just drive it from there, then leave it for another and so on.

In theory, at least, and if people use the system correctly, it could open up new marketing possibilities for Renault, which could then sell batches of cars to the car sharing companies which would in term make them available to the public.
