Remember when Caddy wowed everyone by developing a twin-turbo V8 for the CT6-V? Little did we or Cadillac know back then, but the 4.2-liter Blackwing wouldn’t see another application and the full-size sedan would end production prematurely in the United States of America.
Originally priced at $88,790 and capped at 275 examples of the breed, the CT6-V is currently listed at $94,895 before destination charge for the 2020 model year. Very few units were made, and finding one at or under the suggested retail price is a bit of a hassle given the eight-pot engine’s rarity.

It’s not impossible, though. Hennessy Cadillac has a pre-owned 2019 model with only 528 miles on the clock, working out at 850 kilometers, and it’s listed for sale at $79,998 or at $1,152 per month. Finished in Manhattan Noir Metallic over Dark Auburn with Jet Black for the interior, this CT6-V is loaded with desirable options such as the rear-seat package and infotainment.

"This is a retired show car with all the options," says the vendor, explaining the original price of $96,515. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also featured, but let’s be frank here – the engine is the highlight.

RPO code LTA is more or less an indirect successor of the Northstar V8, featuring hot-V turbos, an aluminum block with pressed-in iron liners, forged steel for the crankshaft and connecting rods, as well as aluminum heads and sodium-filled exhaust valves. You’d expect it to pump out a lot of suck-squeeze-bang-blow for its displacement, but Cadillac didn’t go overboard.

550 horsepower (558 PS) and 640 pound-feet (868 Nm) of torque is how the cookie crumbles, numbers that pale in comparison to the 4.0-liter engine from Mercedes-AMG. The M177 wet-sump V8 in the GT 4-Door Coupé, for example, has 630 horsepower (639 PS) and 664 (pound-feet) 900 Nm.

Nevertheless, the CT6-V is a seriously quick and fast sedan at 3.4 seconds to 60 mph (97 kph) and a top speed of 200 mph (322 kph) without the speed limiter. Indeed, ladies and gents; this Caddy is faster than the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody which tops at 196 miles per hour (315 kph).
