The annual TX2K is the perfect place to be if you want to see and hear extreme modified cars, and if that over-1,000 hp Toyota Supra was not enough for you, then check out this first generation Lexus IS 300 that hides something nasty under it’s hood.
In stock form, this IS 300 was fitted with a 3-liter 2JZ six-cylinder engine, the backbone of Toyota tunings around the world. By default, power is not impressive if you want to go and pull a couple of dyno runs at TX2K, but you can fit a huge turbo to it along with other racing bits and take the power output to a much higher level.
But this being an event held in Texas, some guys must have taught that an import engine is not sounding too good to rev around there. So they took out the 2JZ and fitted the tiny engine bay with a huge 5.3-liter Vortec 5300 LS truck engine.
Now that the sound part got solved, they had to handle the power one too, so a lot of performance parts and two large turbochargers were added to the setup, creating this beast you see here on the dyno.
It somehow makes you think what could have happened if Lexus fitted the IS F with a turbocharged engine by default.
