While the second generation of the Ford GT is making waves these days, there are still gear heads who prefer the 2000s original. Of course, not all of them wish to drive the supercar in factory condition, which is how we end up with sweet deviations like the one sitting before us right now.
You don't have to be a car enthusiasts to figure out the difference between the coupe that is the production FGT and the open-air approach of this example. That's because we're looking at a Ford GTX1.
Revealed back at the 2005 edition of the SEMA show, this Targa-style toy was converted by bodywork magician Mark Gerish rather than being an effort from the Blue Oval.
And while the image we have here is a mere rendering, this is actually a preview for the real-world machine, which will reach its owner soon.
The original GTX1 already stunned its audience by taking the 550 hp of the GT and adding an extra 150. However, the example we have here does away with the supercharged setup, going for a twin-turbo approach instead.
So, what kind of muscle will this beast unleash? While the hp number of the tou hasn't been unveiled yet, I'll mention the 2006 FGT that set a standing-mile record of 300.4 mph back in March, before Bugatti could call production car dibs - sure the Ford isn't a production vehicle, but you should know it's still street-legal, with its TT V8 delivering around 2,500 hp.
The example will have here will probably pack a more streetable number and with the 2019 SEMA show set to open its gates in one month from now, we might just meet the velocity animal at the Vegas venue.
Of course, this would make for brilliant news, since the event has to pack other machines alongside the innevitable 2020 Toyota Supra fleet.
